This renovation story began as a new home search for this family of six. It can be hard to imagine selling the home you’ve brought all four of your babies home to, especially when it’s been a part of your family’s story for fifteen years! Despite what people advise (not to get emotionally attached), a home search can be a very emotional decision.
We were ultimately looking for a home with the size they needed, but also a backyard that had the space and potential for a future pool addition. We struck gold in finding this off-market opportunity in a Franklin neighborhood they desired, with friends literally right next door, that already had a gorgeous pool!
Although the lot size and backyard were amazing finds, the dated interior left plenty of room for improvement. Thankfully this couple, also dear friends, had lots of vision for what the home could ultimately become.
We have called the interior renovation phase one of this project. Here’s what all that included:
+ Opening up the formal dining room to the kitchen
+ Opening the kitchen to the living room
+ Reconfiguring the whole kitchen, expanding the pantry, adding a huge slider to the backyard pool area (and closing off another to help with flow)
+ Lots of fun customizations to the kitchen (appliance garage, cabinet insets, wall of pantry and wet bar to name a few)
+ New facelift to the fireplace and cabinet in living room
+ Sand and refinish the hardwood
+ Transitioning a half bath to full bath on the main level for guests
+ Updating the trim on the main floor & paint
+ Adding some additional sq. ft. by taking an upstairs attic space, adding a skylight and creating a play area off the girls room
+ Updating all upstairs bathrooms with tile, paint, new cabinets, fixtures
+ All new lighting throughout
This home now has a new, modern phase of it’s life and so does the wonderful family who now call it home. As you can tell from the photos, they have amazing taste and it came together so seamlessly.
These were two separate rooms we opened up to be one continual flow from the front to the back of the house. What was once dark, dated and choppy is now bright, functional and wide open!
We will tackle the exterior next so stay tuned for more updates of this beautiful home.
